I ordered a refurbed 10 gig ipod for $169 last Wednesday from the apple store. The ship date was 1-2 days. I was pretty psyched. Well Friday night I get an email saying it would ship before or on today. Well guess what I got today...another email stating that my ipod's ship date was delayed again and that I might not ever get it. This really ticks me off. I'm wondering....

1) Is there anything I can do to ensure I get the product I ordered?

2) Have you gone through this before? If so what happened?

3) Are you currently in the same boat as me and if so what are you doing about it?

Of course, you're buying a refurbished unit. At that price, they're likely to generate a huge backlog. This happens frequently at many companies with something like this. There's nothing they can do about it as they wait for new refurbs to come in.

I totally feel your pain;

I ordered a 10GB ipod via my college comptuer store along with an ibook and printer to take advantage of Apple's great rebate offer for students right now. I received the printer and ibook on time, but its now been almost 6 weeks and still no ipod. I keep checking in with the store every week but they say that apple still has not shipped any to them and that I'm not the only customer in their store in this situation.

I'm starting to get really fed up with waiting this long. I also need to get it soon so that I can get my rebate forms sent off in time before the deadlines and all. I wish Apple would make up for the delay by sending me an ipod dock or something.

I ordered a 10 GB ipod last Thursday, and its on or before shipping date was TODAY (17th)

It changed 10 min. ago to On or before
09/22/2003

THIS SUCKS ..... I should call them and make them upgrade me to the 20GB. Any chances of that

Slim to none. You might get a bump in shipping rate (standard to 2 day) or free shipping but that's about it.

I bought my first iPod (5GB) as a refurb last fall for 199. They sold out in under three days. It happens. Personally for that price I'd be willing to wait a few days. If you got bumped to the 18th then it'll ship today (Thursday).

WOOOO HOOOOOO! Last night my wife was checking our banking account and noticed that Apple finally charged my credit card for the iPod. Then I got an email this morning about the purchase. Finally after all day of checking my order status I called Apple and they said it was in process and would ship in 45 min or tomorrow. I should have it by this weekend or first thing Monday! Ahhh, to be an iPod owner...finally.

The Apple education sale is really making an effect right now.

The sale is almost over so people are saying "man I better just buy this thing." The 10gig is $269 minus $200 through the education program, so people who don't even want iPods are buying them for $69.

I got a job at my University's computer store today, and we have TONS of iPods, and a waiting list 12 people deep for 10 giggers.

I'd join you all in bitching about delays, but I got my Alubook today, so hooray.

well seeing as it's being solved so fast, I'll be here to congratulate you!!

them ipods are awesome, I have a 10gb myself and love it. While I don't use it for music much I find it pure insanity that I can have my entire music collection, all of my backups, my games, my programs, all of my toys and my pictures on that little device...

And then I can lay back, turn it on, read the news, check the weather, and read a good ebook.

Back in June I bought a 3G 30GB and a 1st Gen 5GB Refurb from Apple. 30GB for me, and 5GB for my girlfriends birthday. The 30 came lickity-split, but the 5G had delay after delay. Finally, they ended up shipping me a 2nd Gen 10GB model instead. So sometimes it's worth it to wait.
The 30 has since been sold on eBay and replaced by the nice new 40..... The 10Gb model is still rockin though.

Well, mine was still set for tomorrow by Airborn Express but I just found out I've got to go out of town tomorrow. I called and delayed the shipping until Monday. On the good side the reason I'm going out of town is to scope out a ski resort for work and will get to stay for FREE. No snow but I'm sure I'll have a nice time in the mountains!

Maybe your iPod is going on vacation first? Catch a little sun and surf before heading into you waiting hands.

That is strange. I'd give FedEx a call.

I ordered a 10G iPodwith my new PB back on the 17th. I rec'd my Powerbook but the iPod was supposed to ship by the 19th.

it did ship and the Airborne tracking info says "Picked up by Airborne on 09.19. (China)

Well, it has been a week and no shipping update.. called Apple yesterday and the rep told me a large supply of iPods are being held up in China for some unknown reason...

I asked if they were upgrading everyone's shipping and he stated they most likely would.

Plus, he reiterated that the rebate group will be "forgiving" given the unexpected delay..

Well, good news. My ipod is here! I had called Airborn Express to move my ship date to Monday but they showed up at my house on Friday afternoon...twice! My neighbor, an elderly widow, saw them and said she would sign for the package. Anyway, we arrived home today with my neighbor walking across the yard with a package. Needless to say I was excited!

The iPod I ordered was a refubished 2G 10GB ipod. I must say....I'm impressed! I've already synched it with my iBook and iTunes. I can't wait to really put this 'pod through it's paces!

OBTW, I named it Pod-N-Me. (Say it out loud) It was my wife's idea.
