I'm in the market for a multi-function unit that does the following:
•Prints in B&W and Color
•Scans
•Sends, receives faxes
I've looked into the HP Officejet 7110 and, on paper at least, it seems to do what I want. Is there anything better?
How does the Canon MultiPass MP730 compare?
Any other models worth looking into?

My wife is looking for one for her small CPA office. She's currently looking at the HP 2210. It seems like a good machine and we've seen it on sale in a few stores.
Look here to see some of HP's other all-in-ones.
Let us know what you get and how you like it.

If you are looking for an all in one that faxes then I would recommend the HP 7100 series or the HP 6110. If you plan on printing photographs than the 6110 would be the most appropriate because it can be set up to print using HP's six color inks (two cartridges 57 and 58). The PSC 2210 is a nice family machine but I would avoid for business because it does not provide you with an auto feeder.

What other differences are there between the HP 6110 and the 7110? Why is the 7110 $100 more?

The 7100 series all in one contain a legal size flat bed scanner and larger ink capacity. The 6110 can perform scanning on legal size paper but it must be done using the auto feed. In addtion, the 6110 cannot be ordered with the digital media card reader but the 7130 has it as a standard feature. One more note, the fax feature on the 7100's are slightly more robust.

Does anyone know if the 7100 series printers can be shared such that you can print to them even if nobody is logged in to the sharing machine??
FWIW, I have an older HP all-in-one with fax and feeder (the R80)... it is a great machine, but its just been a dedicated fax machine since I switched back to Macs (it isn't USB).

The 7100 series machines can be shared through a computer or you can use a print server. HP makes a print server for this machine but its kind of pricey. You should be able to set this machine up as a shared device making it accessible to others. As far as logging in or not I can't say for certain.

Has anyone set a 7100 up as a shared printer?
If so, can you tell me if someone must be logged in to the sharing machine in order for others to be able to print to the shared 7100?

Well, I bought a 6100 this weekend (refurbs on sell for $199 at Fry's in DFW... great price).
I can confirm that it works great as a shared USB printer... and you can print to it whether logged in or not on the sharing machine. Further, the setup software was effortless and the scanning software looks to be nice and straight-forward (tried it some; but not for any real work yet).
Oh, and the color copies and prints are very nice. HP has made a great machine here. I hope it lasts as long as my previous HP.
