I am looking at upgrading my video card in my Yikes G4 (PCI graphics). I don't need anything over the top, so I was looking at a Radeon 7000 32MB card. Would this be a worthy upgrade over the stock Rage 128 card for around-about $100.00?

If this card isn't worth it, do any of you have any suggestions I should look into?

Also, with the Radeon 7000, I will be able to use Quartz Extreme because it is 32MB, correct?

Thanks in advance!

you can get the card to work for quartz extreme, but you have to use a hack to your preferences to do it. this whole page at xlr8yourmac discusses the hack (this link will send you to the hack itself): http://www.xlr8yourmac.com/OSX/quart..._mod.html#hack

it's questionable whether this is worth it or not. $100 isn't too bad, and it should make your whole OSX experience much "snappier," and this will help extend the life of your machine for some time if you don't plan to replace it soon (i.e. if you don't need more processing power for what you do on it). it won't really help your machine functionally, just aesthetically :c)

No. Quartz Extreme is NOT dependent on the amount of VRAM, it's that it REQUIRES a Radeon or nVidia card with AGP (PCI gets saturated, thus negating QE's improvements).
