I'm thinking of getting the 20Gb model.

My mp3 files (3,000 +) currently reside on my iMac DV/SE, which runs OS 9.1 and iTunes 2.0.4. I also have an eMac running OS 10.2.6 and iTunes 4.0.1.

My question: Can I load my music files onto the iPod from the iMac, then connect it to the eMac and copy all the files into the eMac's iTunes library, complete with the playlists and individual file info? Are there no 'cross-OS' issues, or any other limiting factors in this regard of which I'm not aware?

This should be doable. Put your iPod into firewire disk mode (which turns the iPod into a giant hard drive) and copy everything off the iMac. Walk it over to the eMac, copy everything back. You can then turn off FWDM and have it sync normally.

The only bad thing would be if you want your iPod to sync with both the iMac and the eMac. iPods can only sync to one computer at a time, if you try and plug it into the other, it will ask if it can completely erase your iPod and load in the "new" library. This is why you need to be in FWDM to do the initial transfer
