Hi all.

I'm getting geared up to replace the stock video card in my G4/533, and I can't decide. Which is better, the Radeon 8500 or the 9000? I play some games and do some video work, but mostly I'm just looking down the road to driving a larger (20" LCD) monitor.

Anyone have any opinions?

Cheers
Scott

The 9000 Pro (different from the regular 9000 which is quite a bit slower and PC-only AFAIK) is slightly slower than the 8500, but it's newer and has more advanced features.

I'd also go for the 9000...for what you need, it'll do fine, and it's typically cheaper/easier to find.

Performance wise the 9000 and the 8500 are very close and on a G4 below 1 Ghz it hardly matters.
The 8500 has one DVI and one VGA port
The 9000 has one ADC and one DVI port (and a DVI to VGA port).
So the ports might affect what you like to buy.

If you want a really cheap card the nvidia Geoforce 4MX from OWC is a good deal. That is if you have a ATI 128 pro card, if you alredy have the original Radeon it is not that much of an upgrade

Yes, it is best to get the ATI-9000

Im getting that as well, when phanther comes,

Currently the ATI-9000 only works with Jaguar and is 2x AGP compatible, so thats good as well. My dual 500 is only 2x AGP and its rage cards pro is age'n.

Unfortunatly, where i live, a 9000 card will send me back AU600 Bucks, that about US$390

Holy crap man...if it's legal, I'll buy you a Radeon 9000 for what it normally costs Americans and ship it to you for just a small fee...it'll save you tons compared to $390! Just PM me if you're interested.

Thanks for the advice, everyone. I ordered the 9000 Pro today from MacMall. It'll be here tomorrow.

Cheers
