I'm considering purchasing one of these, but i am reading reviews saying that BT mice, especially this one do not perform as well as a regular tethered intellimouse. If this is the case, i am not willing to take on the down sides (batteries, config, compatibility) unless the mouse works exactly like a plugged in one.

Please comments from users who have used this mouse or others with powerbooks with built in BT would be very helpful.

Well, you'd be hard-pressed to find any wireless mouse that performs just as well as a wired one.

I find that for my general usage, the MS Bluetooth mouse works just fine. The extra buttons on the side will be supported in Panther (I can't wait to use them to control Expose). To me, not having wires running over my desk is worth it. I have to replace the 2 AA batteries about once every 3 months. I paired it with my 17" PB's built-in Bluetooth and had it working within 30 seconds. No compatibility issues. The only problem I have is that the pointer will ocassionally "jump" but it doesn't happen often enough to bother me. I suppose if you were a graphic designer who needed precise mouse control just one "jump" would be too much, but then why would you be considering a wireless mouse in the first place?

Logitech MX700. Equal in performance to the best wired mice.

Yeah, Space is right. . . sets up in about 30 secs.

The only thing that is missing from my IntelliMouse Explorer (exact same except for bluetooth), is I can't use my back and forth buttons now. (Really convenient for browsing the web.)

And yeah, there are occasionaly jumps.

Space, how do you know it'll be supported by Panther?

MX700. Best mouse on the market. I don't see the obsession with BT mice, unless you have a brand-new Mac with built-in BT. BT is a pain in the butt in general... it's still struggling to survive as a standard.

Have you tried your MS Bluetooth mice with their new drivers? They stealthed posted them to the web the other day. I think they are version 5.0 or something

Nope, don't work. It doesn't even work with the regular IntelliMouse. Only 3.0 works with all the buttons.
