I am getting an external FW drive for backup all the important data. Any recommendation on which model or brand? If you have an FW HD, tell me what you think about yours! Thanks guys!

I have 4 120G LaCie D2s, so I guess you could say I like them.
Pretty cheap. Built tough, Loud as all hell when you have a mess of them.

I got an incredible deal on a 250GB Maxtor drive (free at CompUSA grand opening)... but since my Macs don't have ATA/133, I went and got a Firewire enclosure... threw the drive in it and now I have tons of backup and movie editing space for my PowerBook, when I am at my desk. Works great!

firewire enclosure looks like a good deal to me. I have many PC HD sitting there doing nothing. I may as well just use them. Is it pretty easy to format my PC(FAT) drive to mac drive?

Yeah, I'm pretty sure Disk Utility can do that.
Also if you want a pre-assembled one, eshop.macsales.com has EZQuest FireWire drives available for less than the Lacie D2s. $150 for 60 GB, $160 for 80 GB, $180 for 120 GB. I'm thinking of picking up a 120 GB myself, and selling my portable (but very slow) 40 GB drive.
But first I'm going to see how much it would cost to assemble my own from a bare drive + empty case from NewEgg.

I just bought a Firewire case and an 80 GB Western Digital hard drive from NewEgg today. Total price: $111 including shipping. Now that's a pretty good deal!
By the way, my old 40 GB portable drive is now for sale.

I have two Mercury Elite FW enclosures from www.macsales.com and they've worked great, very easy to set up and use. The ones at www.wiebetech.com are also good from what i hear.

i just recently got a Coolmax 3.5" aluminum firewire enclosure for $53 and a Maxtor 120GB 7200 RPM drive on sale for $59 from CompUSA. total price: $112, or nearly $100 less than LaCie's 120GB drive. Pre-Assembled/name-brand external drives are a ripoff, in my opinion.
