I know the Formac Studio can run either way - bus powered off the Firewire port or via external power supply. But what about the other Firewire DV converters for Mac :
- Hollywood Dazzle
- Canopus ADVC-100
- DataVideo DAC-100
- ADS Pyro AV link
- Miglia Director's Cut
- others???

Does anyone here own these DV converters? Can you please check to see if they can run bus powered or not? Thanx.......joe

don't know about the others, but the Canopus ADVC-100 requires its AC adapter to work.

I was planning to capture video with a PowerBook. So bus-powered would've been a real bonus. I also heard back from ADS and their A/V Link won't work bus powered either. So that updates the list to:

Operates both bus powered and AC powered:
-Formac Studio (all models)

Operates AC Powered only:
-ADS Pyro A/V Link
-Canopus ADVC-100

Unknown:
-Hollywood Dazzle
-DataVideo DAC-100
-Migilia Director's Cut
-Others?

Does anyone know if there's a DV converter geared towards notebook computers (IE smaller and bus powered)?......joe
