Did anyone else catch that Kevin on Screen Savers said he heard Apple was coming out with new monitors soon? I have been strongly considering getting the Samsung 17" 172T, but I could definately wait if Apple has new ones coming out soon. Anyone else hear anything?

Just rumors so far, but I would buy an Apple display if they updated their line. Their response times, contrast ratios, etc. are subpar compared to other good LCDs like Samsung ones. The only other way I'd buy an Apple display is if they lowered prices.

You can count on it!! How do I know...I purchased a 20 inch Cinema display tonight. It never fails, Apple ALWAYS updates whatever product I purchase a month or so after I buy it. So expect cheaper, wider, higher resolution displays soon.
Oh...I love this display. It is connected to my PowerBook by aa Apple DVI-to-ADC connector.

Did someone say Samsung 172T?
It's a great monitor. BTW, if you're going to be using only a laptop with it (like macndave) then I think there is less of a reason to use the Apple monitors. The Apple 17" Studio Display costs more than the superior Samsung 172T, and you have to use that clunky ADC->DVI converter which further adds to the price.

Depends on the usage and I doubt it will be cheaper, and I'm not even considering the ADC->DVI converter for laptop users.
Note that Samsung already has a widescreen 17", but it's just the same monitor as the 172T with a shorter vertical height (and lower vertical resolution), and costs more.
At 17" I don't care about widescreen for a desktop monitor. At 23" it's great though.
