I'm very interested in having a full text dictionary in my iPod.
Preferably a program specifically designed for it, but I'll take one that's just plain text and requires a lot of scrolling . Anyone know where I can either?

Doesn't exist. And without any text input, I think a dictionary would be rather difficult to use anyway. You could try one of the palm dictionaries with a cheap palm.

Yea, that's what I thought. If any programmer wants to take on the task of creating one, feel free to disucss it with me; I have some ideas
Well, looks like music-lovin baby bro will be inheriting the new iPod since I think a PDA will be more suitable for my use

Mmmmmm, if the iPod can recognize multiple buttons being pressed at the same time, you can make a chord-keyboard out of it.

From a navigational standpoint, I think there would be a fairly practical way to implement a simple dictionary on the iPod. Using the scroll and menu buttons only (maybe the others as well). Personally, I'd love something like this.

You COULD have a couple-thousand word dictionary and be able to scroll up and down its list. Or better - start the program, scroll through A,B,C etc and then scroll down individual banks of letters. heck, you could scroll through the 27 letters again and again, and backtrack using << or >> , <menu> quits the app . When the app has just opened, you choose a first letter. You can press >> to start scrolling among the words which start with said letter, or immediately scroll again to choose a second letter. Hit >> when you've gotten close enough to the word. Press <select> when you've got your word selected.
The dictionary can be whatever, I guess - no size constraints . I think everything that MacDICT uses is up for free use.

Yes, something like that. Though I was thinking more of breaking it down first with letters, then the first three letters (eg. aba-aha), scroll and find word, and then select to read definition.
It's pretty simple, non? Someone ought to be able to program that.

Actually, I think just the first letter would do, the iPod scrolls like the wind, you'd be in the next letter before you knew it. Yeah, I would definately buy this. Rain, I also like the use of a electronic dictionary, I use the Franklin MWD-1450, which is a slightly older model than this one. I carry it with me all the time and it very rarely can't find a word, plus the spell checker is way better then any Word programs I have used.

I actually bought that in August, but returned it because I didn't like the screen quality (the fonts weren't clear and there was a blank line on the left of the screen). I'm afraid of Franklin products now
