I don't know about the d-link in particular but I've found that having a lot of home structure between me and the access point diminishes its range tremendously. I have a Linksys wireless router on the second floor in one corner of my house. If I'm in the TV room, which is on the first floor in the diagonally opposite corner, I have trouble with Wi-Fi reception unless I'm in one specific spot in the room. And it ain't a big house, either. Straight-line distance between the two points is probably no more 50 ft.
So if you put your AP in the middle of your basement, you'll probably get decent reception directly above it on the first floor, tailing off as you approach the corners on the first floor or anywhere on the second floor.

Hi. Im planing to get myself an accesspoint for wireless internet at home.
I have been looking at this one from D-Link: http://www.dlink.com/products/?pid=223
- How do you think it will work with an iBook with airport card?
- How far do you think the range will be? Can i have the accesspoint in the basement and still be online upstairs in my livingroom?
Thanks!
