the mac does need drivers to print, it just comes with all of them preloaded already. no dell printers probably wouldn't work, unless they're just repackaged printers from a company that does support the mac.

They're Lexmark printers inside. So most likely they would work with some Lexmark driver or another.

That said, there are far better printers for your money.

It is true, Dell printers are repackaged Lexmark printers. However, there is one caveat. Lexmark cartridges that you buy off of the store shelves will not work in these printers. You are forced to buy these cartridges from Dell.

Don't buy a Dell printer, no matter how cheap they might appear to be.

I for one prefer Canon. HPs are also fine, but the cartridges are a rip-off.

I don't know how good the drivers are for Cannon but the HP drivers for their current line of printers is just horrible. I own a Deskjet 5650 and I'm thinking about returning it to Costco because the drivers just don't seem to work consistently.

The Canon drivers are great!

The only thing I wish they had (and Panther adds this) is reverse print order... oh yeah... the current Canon drivers worked fine in the first Panther preview, so chances are they'll work with the final version, too.

Canons are amazing in hardware and software, lexmarks are junk but the software is ok.

"Hello, what have we here?"
