The case that comes with the 15 and 30 (and i guess now 40) GB iPods is a nice bonus for those of us that coughed up the dough for our pods, but there are two things that sort of upset me:

1) The embroidered apple tag that is affixed to the inside rear of the sheath has sharp corners on it! When i first got my pod I put it in the case whichever way was at hand, and because of that i now have several sets of parallel striations across the face and screen of my ipod. Not to mention all up and down the back of it. Noticeable ones, too! I ripped the tag out, but what a stupid thing to have happen! my ipod is scarred for life... I am assuming this has happened to others and not just me (?)

2) secondly, not a destructive design element, (except to my bodily well being) is the fact that the belt clip is basically impossible to remove... I keep mine in my pocket while i am walking around on campus, and it would be nice to remove the added bulk/stabbings of the clip. I have tried prying it off, but it is held on by a metal backing behind the outer wall, and behind some fabric on the inside.

Just a gripe. Poorly designed, and not worth 30$, or whatever apple is trying to sell them for. Glad mine was free. I would have raised hell!

(Perpetuating detached, existentialist ennui since 2001)

Yes, I too have the scratches on the back, and some scuffs on the screen (but I'm not certain where the scuffs came from). There is stuff out there that can take the scuffs and scratches out. I have yet to use any, but I hear that this stuff works pretty well, and I think I'm going to try it. I'm then going to get a better case for it as well. I too don't need or want the belt clip on the back, and would rather it be off.

Oh well, gives someone else an opportunity to make money by making a better solution.

I got scratches on my iPod from an iPod case (3rd party) and put together a little webpage about how I got the scratches off.

You can also check out Radtech for some iPod polishing/fixing stuff.

Go to your local grocery or hardware store and buy a can of Brasso. It takes out light scratches perfectly from both the metal backing and plastic front, screen included.
