I work in a place that any recording are not allowed in, I am concerned about the freezing temperatures that are coming, and next summer in the 90's (in the car the 100's)

find a way to get it in? or leave it at home (almost not an option, got it to use audible.com and listen to books on my long arse commute)

or is it solid enough to not worry about it

I would certainly NOT leave it in my car man...find someone, someway, somehow, to get it in a climate controlled building while you're at work. The extreme temps. are NOT good for it.

* Relative humidity: 5% to 95% noncondensing
* Maximum operating altitude: 10,000 feet (3000 m)

In the summer, just stick it in the glove box or under the seat so it won't get hot. I wouldn't leave it on the dash or anything..... When you get back to the car, just make sure it's not to hot before you start using it.
As for the winter, well, the cold really won't hurt it as long as you aren't using it. Just let it warm up a bit before you fire it up on the way home. I didn't have an iPod last winter (got a 40gb model now) but a guy I worked with did. We live in VT, and this past winter (as any New Englander will tell you) was F*cking cold. Some days here in the Mtns it barely broke 0 degrees F. (-18C?) One day I showed up at work and it was -18F!
Point of the story is, he left his iPod in the car all the time (2G 10GB model) and also used it all the time outdoors, never had a problem. He just let it warm up a bit before he fired it up. Carefull about putting it infront of your cars heaters, as extreme heat on extreme cold is not good for LCD's. Also there is condensation too look out for, but that is more of a problem going from cold to hot Vs. Hot to cold.

Definitely! You paid too much for it to take chances.

Sounds like a government facility of some sort that goes by a combination of three letters (possibly four in some cases).

How did it come to this? Goodbye PowerPC. | sensory output

if your car is in the sunlight over the course of the day its not uncommon for the internal temp to reach above 130F which is not cool (thats assuming you have your windows rolled up)

Also my sister killed 3 cellphone batteries by leaving them in the car over night during the winter, but as seeing the ipod is lithium polymer it might be a different story, but still why risk it

I GOT WASTED WITH PHIL SHERRY!!!

Every time I've left my iPod in the car during the winter, the battery would be completely drained when I tried to play it afterwards. My iPod doesn't like cold temp period ...

Plus the cold wears it out faster. Better to warm it up before you play it.
