My 40GB iPod should be in my sweaty little hands in 2 days and I want to be prepared to use it properly and not mess fsuck anything up when I first set it up. Here's my question:

I've made the iPod software updates inactive up until now since I didn't have one to update (1.03 and 2.0.1 show up for my 1GHz Ti). But I took a peek at the KB articles for these updates and am confused. It said something about updating while your iPod is connected. Should I wait, then, until I can hook them up together before running these updates? Won't the iPod arrive with newer software? Should I run the updates now before it arrives, so that my computer has the same software? What's the proper way to go about this?

Thanks

You ipod will have software version 2.0.2, there is no need for you to update.

But aren't the updates that SU tells me I need for the computer side? I guess what I'm confused about is if both the computer and iPod need to be running the same version software.

Thanks

Software Update prompts you to download iPod software updates, which are just applications that run on your computer and update the firmware on your iPod when you run them. If you install the 2.0.1 update from Software Update, you get an application in /Applications/Utilities called iPod Software 2.0.1 Updater, and running that will just tell you that your iPod is up-to-date (since it'll be running v2.0.2).
