Got an answer back from Nokia (I was dying here, w no answer and a phone on the way . . . )
"The Nokia 3590 phone is not data capable. The Nokia 3590 phone was designed without an infrared port or data socket that would enable you to transfer phone book or other data between the phone and a computer.
However, the Nokia 3595 phone does allow you to synchronize your phone book, calendar and to-do lists with your computer using SyncML over WAP."
Darn =)
Update: I went ahead and exchanged it for an se610, knowing that the convenience would be worht the initial hassle. As a bonus to my new laptop/cell bluetooth connection, the company I ordered from was great--free return shipping, and free, immediate shipment of the new phone . . . by 2-day air.

can't wait =)
