Why does my ipod not have this option?

I wanted to set up my 3g pods alarm clock. The few people that I know that have one has an option to sound the alarm to play music. Mine only has an option to sound a beep.

Is there something I need to set up first? I tried an on the go playlist but it did not show up.

You must have playlists on the iPod. Then you can select from Beep or one of your playlists. The On-The-Go playlist does not appear in the list.
