I need to configure some devices that I've had for years. Is there any difference between the various brands?

I've used one of those saucer shaped Belkins and it works very well.

I use a Keyspan adapter to talk to my serial X-10 controller. Works fine.
OS X: Where software installation doesn't require wizards with shields.
