For some reason, my brother's iSight doesn't work in his iMac's (flatpanel) firewire ports [both of them].

I know that the iSight works because it works on my powerbook. And I know that his firewire ports work because the iPod can sync on both ports.

I'm stumped? Has anyone encountered such a problem?

Any help would be greatly appreciated!!! Thanks!

That's odd. Do you have iChat AV installed on the iMac?

iChat AV is installed. Nothing shows up under preferences, and the camera doesn't light up

I ran into the same issue. In the end I'm under the belief that the problem is in that I was using the iSight and the iPod at the same time, and since both need power from the bus it would short out the iSight temporally.

To fix it, I would unplug all FW devices, shutdown my iMac, then reboot. When booted I'd plug the iSight and only the iSight in. Sometime I'd have trouble so I try to alternate which port. Eventually it worked again.

Currently I make a point to use only one of them at a time and haven't run into too much trouble. Still though, it is a long term issue and once i get a free day I'll probably call AppleCare to see if they have any other tips...

i actually don't have any firewire devices other than the iSight. My cousin happened to be at the house with his iPod so I plugged it in to ensure that the firewire ports weren't messed up. I also plugged in my firewire drive a month back, and it worked properly.

This is a really odd problem I am really stumped

Apple System Profiler. You can find it either in /Applications/Utilities or choose "About this Mac" from the Apple menu and click the "More Info" button.

This app gives you all sorts of info about any device built in or plugged into your Mac.

Oh, then I did this already :X

even with the iSight plugged in, it doesn't say that anything is connected

Download a demo of EvoCam or BTV and see if they recognize the iSight when plugged in.

I just did, but it didn't work

It doesn't even register under System Profiler that anything is plugged in.

But whenw plugged into my powerbook, it works fine ?
