At the risk of sounding doggedly naive :
Does Apple offer any kind of support to third party Hardware peripheral Developers ?
I am acutely aware of how indifferent they are towards people who want to give them suggestions and I am certaily not even going to attempt to. But I do on the other hand believe I have a very good idea for a mac compatiable peripheral device. I would really love to be able to produce one but the problem here is so overwhelmingly huge that the best outcome I could realisticaly antcipate is if were lucky enough to sell my idea to a manufacturer.
So either I am going to attempt to do this or am I to accept the notion that somebody else is already making one or that other people have thought of it to. Alternatively I could more easily do something like what a wirter for the Washington Post recently did.
I thought I'd bookmarked the article anyway he is a well known writer within the Mac community he proposed that Apple may already be working on a device that works as a wifi radio, and further to that a device that wil eventually encompass wifi video.
His story hedged at 'piping the post' ie that if Apple weren't already developing it then someone should.
My idea I believe to be equally rewarding and benefical to mostly mac users (and possibly others that can swallow the lump in their throat for buying an Apple type product) as his, although a completely different device.
I can forsee the networth of my idea but exactly how one goes about selling an idea without someone including the company your trying to sell it to succeeding in legally stealing your idea.
So without spending a penny, is it realisticaly possible to sell an idea or is it wildly naive to continue to think so, unless I can pay for a lawyer ?

Lawyer Lawyer Lawyer....
If you truly have a device you think you can make money off of you will haev to spend money. If you think you have the next <insert cool device here> then you should have no problem spending money to get it fronted. A lawyer can advise you on what to do patent wise, incorporation wise. From that point you can figure out manufacture and go from there.
