I am going to devise the best sounding solution to connect my new iPod to my HiFi Stereo.

I was going to use the Line-Out on the back of the iPod dock, but was wondering if this completely bypasses the headphone amp on the iPod (which does not sound good when connected to a stereo).

Is the Line-Out jack high quality, and does the iPod volume not effect the output from it?

Do I have any other options? Would it sound better to just play the music from my Powerbook with a USB-->RCA Output solution instead?

Any opinions would be greatly appreciated.

The iPod line out is extremely high quality. According to a recent review and measurements in Stereophile (available in the archives at www.stereophile.com), the iPod line out even has less jitter (i.e. electromechanical noise that decreases sound quality) than many high end CD players.

It probably rivals the Powerbook line out. Things are so tightly packed into notebooks that lots of interference is often introduced into the signal.
