probably a ridiculous question, but i'm a newby ipod owner. i was wondering what the cd that came with my pod is for. it understand it has itunes on it, but my mac already has itunes, is there anything else on the cd that is vital to my ipod operation? so far all i've done is hook up my pod and transfered songs to it from itunes, it works fine. in fact thats all i want to use my pod for. what's all these ipod software updates i keep hearing about ? do i need them for my use? what am i missing out if i choose not to update?

The CD also includes the iPod Updater which is used to restore your iPod to it's original state if needed. It will install in your Utilities folder in Applications.

The CD is there for mainly people who don't have internet access to download iTunes (or who are on slow dialup connections)

As for what you may be missing with the updates, it depends on what version of the software you currently have on your iPod. Check http://www.apple.com/ipod/download/ to see the most recent updates.
