I have HP 7110 multifunctional printer using USB connection to my iMac 17 as well as shared with PB 15. Moreover, I have HP deskjet 5550 which is hooked directly to AirPort Extreme which is primary printer for PB (although PB can print on 7110 via printer sharing). I also sometimes use the deskjet 5550 from the iMac (especially if I am printing large reports on 7110).

However, about twice a week or so the printers will not fully function with Print Center indicating that printer is idle, processing but never finishing, or sometimes cannot connect. So far, I either remove and replug the USB connector from back of printer (about 90% of the time this will solve problem) or restart computer. I have fully tested iMac for HW and no problem.

I am wondering if this problem is inherent to HP software since I sometimes had connection problems with a PC (prior to switching during March 2003).

HP has horrible software for the Mac.

IF you don' t need a multifunction get seperate Scanner and printer by Canon and live the good life.

Until last month, I had a HP P1100, which was a nice printer, but the drivers never worked well with Print Center.

I now have the 7110 you mentioned, and it has much more sophisticated software. I have had no problems with 10.2.6-8 with this printer on my Flat iMac.

I suspect that your problem may be related to having multiple printers and drivers?

Are you on Panther yet, or is this 10.2?

Have not switched to Panther..using 10.2.8. Have updated drivers and I believe you are correct on multiple printers since both printers use HP Communications.app. Appears to be conflict when printing on Internet but not Excel or Word. Best would be to use 7110 only for iMac and use 5550 with PB via Airport Extreme.

Thanks for the help!
Switcher and damn glad...with iMac and PB who would not be happy!

Don't upgrade to Panther until the new AOI driver is released. I hope this happens soon.

Since (over-eagerly) upgrading to 10.3, we have not only lost the custom preferences from the Print Dialog (such as draft, 2-sided, and even grayscale), but I just got an AEBS to share the printer and although Printer Setup finds the printer on Rendezvous, it does not recognize the AOI driver.

So wait to upgrade. And send messages to HP so they do the driver soon. I bet it will take months!

This is the reply you will most likely receive from HP if you write them about this:

Unfortunately we cannot give a definite timeframe with regards to the latest driver release at the moment.

As the completed version of Mac OS X 10.3 (Panther) was only recently made available (October 24th, 2003), we are still testing our All-in-One drivers with this new operating system. As a result, our existing All-in-One drivers may experience reliability issues when used with Mac OS X 10.3. Apple's new operating system does ship with integrated print-only drivers for many of our products. In addition, OS 10.3.1 was also released recently, and we are developing and testing the latest driver software for this release as well.

HP is currently working with Apple to develop drivers that will provide full functionality for our products. We recommend subscribing to our driver notification service at the URL provided below. This will provide an e-mail alert when a new driver becomes available for a particular product being used.
