I may be getting a Canon EOS 10D for Christmas (come on Santa!) and want to know what those of you with the media reader think of it. I'm going to be doing some travelling in foreign nations and I don't want to have to carry my PB as well as adapters. I'm going to be taking my iPod anyways, so it's just a matter of packing that media reader. Course, I need to get a new iPod... My poor first gen!

Not ready from prime time.
While it looks good on paper, it seems Belkin dropped the ball on this one. Wait for rev 2 or an offering from a better company.

Everything I've read suggests that this is a nearly useless device - dead slow, eats batteries, etc. I don't know if it's due to poor design or the limitations of the iPod format, but either way it's a disappointment. I was really looking forward to using the iPod to store photos.
You can now buy 512 MB CF cards for less than $100 if you shop around. I'd rather spend the money on more cards than on a cumbersome device like this.
[edited to remove ill-conceived theory about why it doesn't work]

I was thinking (dangerous, I know).
The iPod has a Firewire port.
They make firewire card readers.
Wouldn't it be seriously kick arse to simply plug a firewire card reader into your ipod and transfer away? I doubt this would work without software on the iPod to deal with this, but that would be very handy.
I've got a DSLR and shoot a lot, and would love to shoot in RAW mode but the files are huge. Having a little card reader and iPod in my pocket to offload would rock.
Wish I had a reader to try that with, just for kicks...

Take a look at the SmartDisk Flashtrack for decent speed downloads, color LCD, RAW support and good battery life.

Sigh, I was so hopeful. Has anyone found out why it's so slow? That guys test on dpreview was a bit confusing, but I think it proves that the media reader is the bottleneck (right?). I hope it's just a little firmware update or something like that...
edit: I just flipped through the reviews over at dpreview.com and people are pointing out that Belkin generally does a good job of updating its products, so perhaps the next version will address these problems. Hope lives on.

I guess I won't be buying this. It was a consideration for my vacation, as I had only 350 MB of CF, but I think my additional 512 MB I bought is probably a better solution. And if I run out, I can always buy another 512 MB. 1.3 GB of flash memory would definitely suffice for my needs (4 MP camera).
Plus I have another 256 MB SD media in my camcorder, which only supports 1.3 MP images anyway.
