I am used to a Flat Panel iMac with Pro Speakers and an iSub.
I am going to sell the iMac when I get the 17", but will still have the iSub.
I am wondering: will I be satisfied with the sound of the built in speakers with an iSub, or should I just get some Creatures?
Anyone care to comment?

Even though the speakers on the Powerbook are really good quality, I still need something with more power. So I bought myself a Altec Lansing VS4142 Speakers. They are very nice.

I second nobitacu's assessment. Internals are great when in a pinch but for true gaming or itunes, external speakers / headphones are ideal.

The speakers on the 17" are great.... for a laptop. However, I'm certain that when you're using it at home you'll still long for something better. The built-in speakers are great for when you're on the run, but they still don't compare to a good quality set of externals.

I would advise againts the Creatures or any other speaker that has it's own seperate subwoofer, it will sound very bass heavy and you have two big subs on your desk, the Pro speakers are the perfect match if you want to keep your iSub...

I wired some smallish high quality home speakers from my tuner to my coputer area, then got a minijack-2-RCA and pipe my iTunes to my tuner.
KA-BOOM.
Nothing beats it.

I have the JBL Creatures and they produce remarkably good sound. But kovacs brings up a good point, with two subs sitting on your desk your treble might get drowned out. Of course, you could simply turn down the bass on the Creature sub or unhook your iSub. If you do decide to get some speakers, I do recommend the Creatures, solid sound, good looks and a decent price.
Again, like everyone else has posted, the sound from the 17" speakers are good for a laptop, but no where near good quality. They lack bass (of course) and sound a bit tinny (if that makes any sense). From your post, I got the sense that you'd be hooking up your iSub without the satellite speakers, and in place of the satellite speakers you'd be using your PBs built in speakers. My recommendation would be to lean away from that scenario (is it even possible? Will the presence of the iSub override the PBs speakers thus muting them?). If you want decent sound, pick up some external speakers.

No the powerbook's speakers won't be muted out. iSub just takes the low frequencies.
I say try it off the bat, the powerbook speakers might be small but they're probably no worse then the ones in the DV imacs -- what the iSub was intended to compliment.
IF anything, you can always pick up an iFire amplifier, plug that into firewire, the pro speakers through that into a regular stereo jack, and you have your other half
OR better yet, simply a small set of sattelites that fufills the same purpose. iSubs work with anything.. even headphones. lol (internal speaker too.. done this on my g4)
