Anyone else have this problem:

The iPod is stuck at the apple logo screen and restarts itself from there and repeats this until the battery dies. When I plug it into the computer nothing happens, it doesn't automatically go into firewire disk mode. When I restart and then force it into firewire disk mode, again nothing happens. After I do all that I've tried launching disk warrior, apple's disk utility and norton utilities and all of which launch and then get stuck on a spinning beach ball. Once I unplug the iPod a bunch of OS X errors come up about trying to mount a disk with no volumes. So more than anything, it contained two documents that are nowhere else on my system. Any suggestions?

Try downloading a recent update from Apple. Run the updater. I think there is a reset option on the updater that may give you a new option. But the option may erase your iPod. HTH

Have you seen my pants?

Well, as far as I know the latest version for a 2G iPod is 1.3 and I have that. It doesn't recognize that there is an iPod plugged in and won't let me update or restore it.

You can also try the soft reset. I haven't done it in a while, but try holding the menu and play keys together for around 5 seconds (I'm not sure if the iPod has to be on beforehand, so do two runs, one starting in off and the other starting in on). This may just give you a small window to mount the iPod and then restore it.

Good luck.
