HI I was just wondering if any of you know if the phone jacks in Europe are different than those in North America? If they are do they have any specific names. I am wondering about the jacks in Germany and France in particular.
Thanks!

The wall jacks in Germany are type "TAE F". They have two different device-to-wall cables; one for telephones and one for modems. I've discovered that German telephones use the outer two connectors of the RJ-11 jack/plug while in North America the inner two connectors are used. I think that this accounts for the two different device-to-wall cables sold in Germany. You should be able to use a modem type cable if you're planning on using a modem over there. I hope someone can confirm this.
I do know that I had to make an adaptor to swap the inner two connector with the outer two connectors in order to use a German telephone in the U.S. (I like the ring better)

if you go to a store (PC World) here in the UK, they have 'World Connection' packs that give you all the cables, dongles and plugs for 90% of the telephone systems in the world... Pretty cheap to at about $20...
Peace,
Marc
