I am looking for a bridge board to fit into an old two bay external scsi case. I wold like to have FW 400 and FW 800 support. I would like to put a CDR and a hard disk into the same case, using slave and master mode. Is this possible? What are the chances of this being bus powered? Could either of the 3.5" HD's or CDR's be bus powered if they were used alone with the bridge? That is, by just swapping the appropriate cables around when I need a particular device?

Has anyone done something like this, can anyone recommend a good bridge board?

No way will you find a board that meets all your needs.

1. ALL FireWire 800 boards are FW400 compatible, since the standard is backwards-compatible. All you need is the appropriate cables or adapter plugs.

2. Standard bridge boards do not allow more than one device to be connected. Those that do allow only two hard drives, not optical drives.

3. 3.5" hard drives generally draw too much power to be bus-powered.
