Well, I have an iPod and I love it. But......
I want to buy some for Christmas Gifts; at three-hunderd smackers, I just don't think I can pull it off.

I hate to ask this, but know I was working this through my head. Do you think they might drop the price on these babies for Christmas? My sense is no, with Steve Jobs saying "We'd love to make a $199 iPod, but we just can't". I think it would be a smart move, but then again I did not bring Apple back from the brink. Anyways thoughts or ideas would be nice. The only thing I am wondering about is why they are offering free Engravings right now. Nuts

You can probably get a refurbished iPod for a little cheaper. The Apple store had 10 GB iPods without the dock for $229. Check the special deals section.

Slick shoes?!! Are you crazy?!!

I wish there were $199 iPods too.

PowerMax.com has the older 5 GB iPods refurbished for $169 in Mac/Windows versions. I'm not sure if they have the full 1-year warranty though. I guess it depends on whether Apple or PowerMax refurbished them.

Good luck with your iPod gift idea. :-)

Yeah, I was really considering refurbished models, but these are going to be gifts. Giving something refurbished as a gift just does not seem right to me. Who know, I might be able to swing it. But they'll never get another gift from me ever know if Apple would just get off the cheap bus and throw in the accessories. You know it costs them nothing for a base and holder.

So I have 3 10GB iPods sitting in my "Saved Orders" box at the Apple Store with engravings (since they're free right now). But I wonder, will the price come down before Christmas? Will Apple include some of the accessories with the 299 dollar iPods? Should I wait? If I wait will I be able to get it in time for Christmas? How long would be too late to order? Will I lose free engraving? Thoughts? Suggestions? Help?

You may want to wait until after Thanksgiving when the official Christmas shopping season begins. Apple may offer some promotion giving away free accessories or *gasp* a price drop. But if history repeats itself, Apple won't drop the price of the current models until newer models are available. The earliest I see Apple introducing 4G iPods would be in January at MacWorld.

Thanks. Yeah, I don't really expect to see any new iPods until early next year. I guess I just want to get the most bang for the buck. I am thinking about just getting them now and never looking back. That way I can concentrate on paying them off.

I don't think Apple will introduce any MAJOR new iPod updates until Late April.

They are likely to have an update on 3G iPods. But , no 4G iPods, YET.

Man, we could all use a friend/coworker/long-lost relative like you. iPods for Christmas? I'm lucky to get a real, paper birthday card from my friends.
