Picked up this printer today, installed it and can't get any photos to print from any OS X app, including PhotoShop and iPhoto. Everything seems to be working but the print job stops and never reaches the printer.

I've tried every trick I could think of or could find on many Mac troubleshooting forums and websites (including HP's, which was no help).

I'm guessing that HP needs to update the driver to work with Panther. The system requirements do state it's compatible with Mac OS 10.1 through 10.2.

So what to do?

The printer does accomodate memory cards which are recognized by iPhoto and the Finder. So I put a blank card in the printer, processed the photos in PhotoShop and dragged the saved images over to the printer. Then I print using the printer's control panel.

A bit of a hassle but a good workaround until we see new drivers (or someone can tell me what is wrong).

Update:

Called HP tech support and talked to a very helpful gentleman in Canada. He said HP is working on an updated driver for Panther and in the meantime he would send me an older driver that is supposed to work. Seems rather odd to me but I'm willing to give it a try.

Strange that they can't make the older version available on their website. Mailing a CD seems so 20th century. Ha!

Try this. My HP 970 would quit printing jobs and this fixed it.

No go. Mail now quits if I try printing from it.
If I print from TextEdit, the jobs just stop, as before.

Thanks anyway!

Received the older printer driver 2.2.5 and all is well now.

Very good tech support from HP on this one.
