I am borrowing a friend's iSight this weekend because I need to record video directly to my computer -- not video conference or chat or anything. I need to use it like a camcorder. Is there free software that will allow me to do this? If so, do you have any recommendations?

Thanks!
Chris

EvoCam is my app of choice. I don't know of any other that will allow you to record video. Check it out, it's very nice.

Couldn't connect with Evocam, so I tried iRecordNow from Boinx. Yes it's a one-day trial, but they say you can renew every day till you buy it. Looks good and works well so far. Controls for hue, brightness and saturation, sound gain, focus is greyed out. It also puts the image right, instead of "mirror-mode" like in iChat.

I wonder why they don't make iSight work with iMovie. They'd make even more money off the iSight that way. Indeed, I can use my Canon MiniDV camcorder just like that - no tape needed - direct capture to my hard drive thru iMovie. (It's not as if Apple makes MiniDV camcorders, so it's not as if they're losing much there.)

You can record to your hard drive with Quicktime Broadcaster. Works OK.
