I have a Ti PowerBook 1GHz...
Thinking of getting the 20" cinema display.
2 questions...
1. Do I have to buy an adapter?
2. Any word on new displays???
Thanks!

Yes, you need a ADC->DVI adapter. Apple as one for $99.00, the adc adapter includes usb, otherwise you may find one cheaper else where. I have one for my 15al and it works great with the 20" cinema display.

How old if the TiBook. I have the last revision but only the 867 one. I hhave a DVi port right on the back so you may already have one. Saves teh $99 bucks but I think there is still some sort of cable that you have to buy but it's not that expensive.

Cinema Displays do not use DVI, thet use ADC. THe box converts DVI to ADC.

Got my PB in Dec 02. 1st one with SuperDrive.
Beleive it has the DVI port....but now I am confused...do I need to buy any thing extra - or will the cinema display come with the right cable / or will the cable I got with my PB suffice?
Hmm...no rumours on new displays????

If you want to connect an Apple Cinema Display, you have to buy an DVI to ACD converter - no questions asked. There's no way around it (I believe). I have an ACD connected to my PB 12 and it's amazing.

We'll from what is stated above iit looks like you have to buy the extra adapter to make iit work. Looking on the Apple website it clearly states in the specs that tey are only ADC. I always thought they were bothh, don't know why.
Anyway, you need the adapter and it's $99us at the Apple Store. http://store.apple.com/1-800-MY-APPL...5.10.3.18.13.0

If I were you, and I soon will be, I'd consider getting a Formac 2010 which bests the Apple display in these categories:
-price - $1199
-contrast - 600:1
-brightness - 250 nits
-pixel response - 15ms
-resolution: 1600 X 1200
Formac 2010
AND it comes with both ADC and DVI connectors, so you save another $100 on the connector you don't have to buy.
And it looks just about as good as the Apple, which you cannot really say for any other flat panel.

I connected a Cinema Display to my Ti PowerBook this weekend. It's the best I've ever had. Have you connected a keyboard and mouse to your PB? I'm using a Belkin 4-port USB hub for a printer and scanner. I've got an Apple Keyboard with mouse plugged into the back of the keyboard an then into the PB direct. Do you know if I can plug some of these into the back of display and bypass the hub?

I believe you can plug the keyboard into the back of the ACD USB interface and your keep your mouse plugged into your keyboard. Just make sure that the USB connection from the DVI-ACD adapter is connected into your PB.
In my set-up, I am using Apple BT Keyboard and Mouse. I have a USB Hub that is connected to the back of the ACD for other accessories.

As long as it works you'll be fine. If you have to deal with the company, then good luck, their support was known as not being very helpful... but perhaps this has changed since last year.
Personally, I like the Formac design better than Apple's.

So what has happened to the rumors of updated monitors to match the new G5's? I'm sitting here with a maxed out machine waiting very impatiently for a big-ass, huge flat panel to put on my desk. I do digital art and gave up my 21inch crt to my partner already. So here I sit with my crappy 17" cheapo monitor used exclusively for palettes. I need the big one to show the art! Anybody heard anything? I'm getting desperate!

Yeah, I was kinda waiting for new monitors, too. I'm not in dire need, though. There were rumors of a November refresh and a new look and feel. There are usually stronger rumors, though, before it happens and I haven't seen any. The supplies get short, Apple runs a discount, and a strong rumor emerges... haven't seen anything like that.
That said, they're kinda due, I think, and you would figure that Apple would want to get them out prior to Thanksgiving for the Christmas buying season.
