Well I am a first time switcher, and I must say it has been nothing but hell for me.
I ordered a 15 inch powerbook the first day it came out thru adc. I will be going on my 3rd powerbook, yes 3rd due to a number of different problems. They will not rush my production of my unit either, which makes me kind of mad. I am without a frickn computer here at school.

Well to add to the problems with my apple products, I think my ipod battery life sucks.
I got the 20 giger, and my settings are eq off, contrast low, and 1 second light.
Basically I don't skip around on songs and just listen to the music. I think I am standing at about 3-4 hours before the battery hits the final bar. I was told not to let it go below that because of some battery thing.

Should I be calling up apple and asking them to replace this too?
Tomorrow I plan on doing some more testing with the ipod, by just letting it run. Some questions if I do this.
Should I have the head phones plugged in?
Does sound loudness make a difference? (normally its at mediumish)
Just set it on a folder and let it repeat?

The new ipods have a battery life of about 6-8 hours. By not letting it go lower than the final bar you're cutting a quarter off that time.

Let it completely discharge, if anything it will do the battery good. You have nothing to worry about.

With the new iPod software there are no "bars" anymore. I get around 8 hours or so of cont. playback. (with minimal skipping around songs).
The only times it's less is when it's cold out....

Yeah I know but I havn't been able to update my ipod because I still dont have a powerbook. Apple seems to be ignoring me until the replacement laptop comes 2 weeks from now.

Mine lasts for a while on the "last bar". Also, why recharge prematurely?

In general, I've always heard it was better to drain most of the battery before recharging.

It's right there in the instruction manual. Within the first few days of owning your iPod fully charge up the battery, then listen to it until the battery is completely dead, i.e. the thing turns off by itself, then charge it back up to 100% again. that sets the battery, gives you max battery time. Same goes for your Powerbook battery when you get it.

The lithium batteries in the ipod and powerbook dont have memory so throw them in the charger whenever you want. Nothing to worry about. But letting it discharge and then recharging it to 100% each time is prolly the best way to go.

Those two statements are completely contradictory!
