Ok--I'm angry

I got my 2nd gen. iPod in May (RIGHT before the release of the 3rd gen.) I took it to work w/ me yesterday and it worked beautifully as always, but when I went to pop those headphones into my ears about to embark on the cramped and crowded N/W, the screen would not come on. Not even a "battery dead" sign. i put it up to my ear and no sounds were made. Odd, but not worried.

Thinking it must have been really drained (which it wasnt, I went home and plugged in the firewire from the iPod to the outlet and nothing happened. No apple logo appeared, no whirring of drive, NOTHING. I then tried to sync it to my powerbook G4 (with OS X, jaguar)--nothing. The thing is compeltely dead.

I am so upset. I dont even have this thing for 6 months and it dies on me. Do you know how painful it was to ride on that subway this morning and not have my iPod there to take me away from the dreading SOUND of work? What do I do!?

If you can take it to an Apple Retail Store do so. If it really just freaked out on its own they should just give you a new one. They may atleast take it in for repair. I've found that when dealing with apple or any company its better to talk to them directly. The people at the stores have always been more understanding than when I call support. It's still under warranty.

Yeah, there's a way to reset it that may work. You toggle the "hold" switch (top edge) off and then back on. Then you hold down the "play" and "menu" buttons at the same time for about 5 secs.

good luck... hope this does it.
