People lets make some noise so Apple realizes the potential market for an Apple branded digital hub for the home theater crowd. Like Slimp3, this would allow for networked streaming of MP3s that you can play on your living room stereo but better - with built in Airport Extreme, tight integration with iTunes, big color LCD display and optical and digital outputs. A high end model could also have a Superdrive and a big hard drive for burning and additional storage and maybe integration with iMovie for streaming video. Anyone else want something like this???

I heard a rumor a while back that Apple was working with TiVo on something-er-other. Not sure if it was a false rumor, but interesting. I'd love an Apple made TiVo/Home Theater device.

I want Apple to make the entire home theatre experience. Apple does a great job of making complicated tasks easy- DVD production isn't simple, but you can give just about anyone a DV camera, Mac iMovie/iDVD and with minimal guidance they can make a DVD.
My home theatre setup is a nightmare. Most of them are. Inputs on the TV. Inputs on the receiver. Gotta use 3 remotes to get everything lined up right. I tried the macro storing remotes.... their problem is that they can only make relative adjustments, not absolute. They can press the input button twice, but they can't promise it's going to end up on AUX2.
I want to put the DVD in the tray, press play, and see my TV go to the proper input, my reciever flip to optical in with 5.1 output and the disc's main menu start up before I get my rear in my favorite seat. It's a simple goal- play disc- but a painfully complicated set of steps to get there. Does any manufacturer make that?
I think Maroma is thinking about the series 2 tivo with home media option. Put that and your mac on the same LAN and the tivo can play your itunes music (MP3 only- what, you re-ripped to AAC? Too bad!) and display your iPhoto albums.

this is likely the tivo v2, as moof points out. it's already in stores.
i agree with the original poster... we are talking about a HUGE market that apple is ignoring. with the overwhelming success of ipod and itunes, and the notoriety of mac users using their macs as a hub for all things digital... you would think they would come up with something in this area. not that technical really, it just seems they are ignoring it.
i will probably get the tivo. i like the linksys media adapter, but it own't work with a mac; nor will the smc product that does the same (wireless connection to a pc to stream music and photos with an interface on the tv).
slimp3 and anything that doesn't have an interface to browse on your tv sucks in my opinion, since scrolling through thousands of music files it totally unrealistic on those little lcd screens.
xbox2/ps3 will likely do all of this as well... but won't be out for a long time.
