Are there any compatibility problems with the Epson Photo 2200 and Panther? I couldn't find any information on either Epson's or Apple's website about it.

Whoops! I meant to put this in Peripherals. Or should it be OS-X. Anyway, mods, could you move it please? Ta!

Hi.

I've had very good luck with using Jaguar printer drivers in Panther. I suggest that you try this.

OK, so I shouldn't worry then?

I'm just nervous because I got burned with my Epson scanner (Apple's fault, not Epson).

Well, that's not exactly helpful or informative, now is it?

All I want to know is if I get this printer (which is the top one of its price range for photographers), will it work with 10.3? If you have specific information about problems, I'd appreciate hearing it. But just saying it blows doesn't help.

For example, I have read in some reviews that there are problems under OS-X with changing from the regular black ink to the matte black ink. Does anyone have any information on this?

Well it does help, its better than no answer, no? Check out Version Tracker for user reviews. Seriously, Epson hardware is REALLY good, but the software is like a dodgy windows port. In fact, it IS a dodgy Windows port, custom windows, widgets etc. It's nearly as bad as an X11 app, only worse.

I have an Epson scanner and an Epson printer, so I know. As I said REALLY good hardware but, the software sucks the big one. The scanner software is Epson 'Smart panel'. It's not very smart. At all.

Meh, your mileage may vary, you have a different model.

Again. the hardware is excellent. It's just really annoying that I have to restart every time I want to scan.

Have you tried Viewscan? It works beautifully for me.

I checked the reviews and they seem to indicate that the problems with the 2200 software was eventually fixed. Some people also seem to have had good luck with Gimp-print. But nobody has mentioned use under Panther, so I'd like to be sure it works before I plunk down $699 on a printer.

epson has notoriously bad drivers for the mac. i would recommend going to a photo web site instead of a general user site (like this one). you will have much better luck at www.robgalbraith.com or www.fredmiranda.com. lots of 2200 users there, who always complain about the 2200 drivers for mac. imageprint is the way to go if you are willing to spend the money.
