My friend sent me this question, I am not so great a hardware troubleshooter so I'll post it here. I'm sure he would appreciate any help.

his message:

The drive is a Western Digital 200 GB internal drive in a ARGOSY EXTERNAL 3.5" USB 2.0 VERTICAL STAND ALUMINUM HARD DISK DRIVE ENCLOSURE.

I started having trouble because I couldn't write to it, said there were errors with the files, couldnt read or write them. Some files could be transferred but not twice. No real rime or reason. Could take files off of it or play them no problem, just couldnt transfer on to it. I tried running Norton on it, it said there were serious problems with the B tree and I tried to run the emergency mode onit and it was REAL slow so I stopped it. Big mistake. After that it wont show up on the desk top. WHen it is plugged into the firewire I cannot see it in the system profiler, when it is plugged into the USB I can. THe drive shows up on the finder, but I cannot access it. I have searched for files on it, but cannot access them.

does this mean that the case is dead? I Dont care if the info is gone
it is all replaceable I just hope to save the drive. Do you have any tips?
