hey- i just bought a brand new microsoft intellimouse explorer w/ side scroll

but whenever i open the control panel to customize the mouse the control panel crashes(i've rebooted -yes)

and to add to the annoyance when i went to microsofts website to try to download the driver(hoping their might be a newer version without the crashing) i found that MICROSOFT'S DOWNLOAD WEBSITE DOES NOT WORK ON A MAC!
in mozilla, safari, or IE the download links lead to blank pages!

so then i went over to my roomies XP machine and was able to download the macintosh driver using IE on that machine....

after reinstalling the driver from the website the control panel still crashes so i cant configure the mouse

So i'm asking if anyone else has had this problem or if anyone might be able to help me fix it

If not let this post serve as a warning to anybody who hopes to give microsoft products a second chance...

I also bought an intellimouse wireless and installed the 5.0 driver. It works ok (10.2.8). But there seems to be a bug in the way the mouse works with Safari.

When I click "back" with the mouse (button on the side of the mouse), instead of showing me the previous page, Safari gives me a default page that comes from nowhere in my case : google. Any idea of how I could fix this ? (My dad also has the5.0 driver and Safari shows him another page as well).

Customize the back button to a keystroke, cmd + [, for Safari.
Should do it.

No problems here using a trackball explorer with microsoft software in panther. Except they removed push and scroll, grr, have to find an older version of intellimouse...

I have a similar problem, when I press any of the other buttons in my Wireless Intellimouse in Safari, there is no response at all, and I meddled with the Intellimouse preferences and can't find a way to assign a keystroke to any button.

P.S. When I used IE the other buttons would perform their functions as expected, but since I switched to Safari the buttons are good for nothing.

Is anybody out there having the same issues with the plethora of mice from Microsoft that are being commented upon?

duh!
Right under my nose...anyway, I assigned the keystrokes and they don't work at all! It seems that the drivers are not sending any information to Safari...
I can control Safari through keystrokes, but that's quite annoying.
