In the past few days i have installed a 30 gig drive out of a ibook into a coolmax 2.5 bus powered case.

several problems have arisen since.

1. the drive seems abnormally slow. after a reboot, if i double click on the drive, it takes about 10 seconds to open and show the contents. if i try to open a folder, sometimes it takes up 30 seconds to open the folder, or completely hangs the finder.

2. if i chain my ipod to it, good luck getting it to even respond. ( i figure this is because i am powering 2 devices off of 1 bus)

3. transfer rates are horribly slow, both ways. and if i ask it to transfer a large amount of info, it'll just click for a bit, but never start the transfer, again resulting in a hung finder forcing a reboot.

before i put any info on the drive i ran disk utility on it in panther and reformatted it and all that good stuff.

i can feel the drive spinning in the case, but nothing seems to be happening.

any guesses?
