first, let me apologize if this is covered elsewhere. I'm a bit pressed for time and for once can't search. (Plus I'm using my mother's dial-up AOL connection on her 350MHz PC which makes my teeth hurt just using it)

I'm travelling with my ibook. My spouse brought his ipod (old version that charges through regular firewire cable) but not his charger. The itunes music collection is on my desktop at home running 10.2.8. I just updated the ibook to Panther. There are no music files on the ibook. What will happen if I connect the ipod to the ibook to charge it? Anything dire?

Thanks.

Nope. Your iBook will simply tell you 'This iPod is synced with another library. Do you want to replace the music on the iPod with the one on this machine?' or something similar. Simply say 'no' and it won't do anything to your iPod except charge it (and allow you access to it as an HDD if you have it set up to do so).

Charge away!
