Belkin seems to have a good solution for using the ipod in a car. I've got two questions for anyone who has one.

1. Does it have to be plugged in the cig lighter for the line out jack to work?

2. Has anyone experienced any whine sound or "ground loop interference" when using it when the engine is on?

thanks for your help - David

1. Yes
2. No
Since I mostly use my iPod in the car the Belkin has been a life saver. I no longer have to worry about the iPod running out of juice.

I get some alternator whine in my system, though it's only noticeable in between songs, when the volume is fairly high. One of these days I'll put in a ground isolator, which by all accounts will kill the noise 100%.

The most annoying thing is that Sound Check doesn't seem to work through the docking connector audio output, so I have to be adjusting the stereo volume constantly on mixed playlists.

I experience the whining sound, as well as a strange clicking sound in some volume levels. It should be noted though, that I have my line out wired through my CD changer port. I too will someday get a ground to eliminate the sounds. But I really like the sound boost the Belkin adapter provides.
