I have my powerbook on an Airport Extreme Network.

On the base station, there is a USB port.

So I plugged in my HPpsc2100 all-in-one printer into the base station. Now what I would like to do, is print from my powerbook. How do I set this up?

The drivers are already installed on the powerbook, I just need it to recognize it over the network somehow.

So do I just select IP Printing? How do I find the IP address of my printer?

Thank you for your help

PS... Also, I have an XP machine (my roommates) using the network port off of the base station to connect to the internet. If anyone knows how I setup his computer to print from this printer also, that would be wonderful.

I've been doing this for a few months now and everything is fine and dandy.

Your PowerBook should be able to detect it automatically through Rendezvous, since that's how the base station shares it. Just launch Print Center and "Add Printer".

For the PC:
Install printer drivers first
1) "Add Printer"
2) "Local Printer" (don't automatically detect)
3) "Create new port" - "Standard TCP/IP Port". This will take you to some new wizard.
4) Enter Printer IP address and port name:
  • IP address is that of your base station (check either from "Network" System Preferences Tab or "AirPort Admin" app. Usually 10.0.1.1)
  • Port is 9100
  • You should get something like IP_10.0.1.1:9100

I stepped this through on my Windows 2000 system, but I don't imagine Windows has evolved much...

Hmm... just compare the number of steps involved.

edit: added Windows instructions

Ok, so it finally detects it through rendezvous, but it still is not working.

I was able to get Word to print on 1 of the 3 pages and then it just stopped. I went over and looked at the printer and everything seems to be fine there. I even made a copy to make sure ink and paper were ok.

But I still cannot get it to print from my powerbook anymore. I tried printing it, the hpPSC1200 icon pops in the dock and then it just times out and asks me to stop or delete job.

So what could I be doing wrong? I find it strange that it was able to print 1 page, and now it just doesn't work anymore.

Try removing and adding the printer again. That's about as much as help I can offer for this problem since I've no experience with HP stuff or such problems. Usually my Epson quits on me only when there's a paper jam of some sort.

and after there is a paper jam? You fix the paper and then what do you have to do? Do you have to add the printer again or can you just start print again?
