I have had my 10 gig iPod (trackpad wheel) for about 15 months now and I am starting to have some problems wtih it. I cannot syncronize any files between my iPod and my iBook. The iPod just continues to say that it is okay to disconnect it whenever it is plugged in. I have tried this on about 3 other computers to ensure that it was not my iBook's firewire port.

Some interesting things:

1) The wire will charge my iPod. It just won't transfer ANY data and it prevents all recognition. Even resetting my iPod over and over again does nothing.

2) I have tried the firewire cable to backup my computers using target mode. It won't work. I have tried many different combinations of computers and none of them work.

I'm hoping that this is just a cable issue - but why then can i still power my iPod? If anybody can give a suggestion i would really appreciate it. Thanks a lot.

Tom

My first suggestion would be to find another Firewire cable and try that. Sounds to me like your cable is funky.

The firewire cable has 6 pins, 4 for data transfer, and 2 for power. It may be that one of the data pins is damaged, which is why it could still charge.
