Firewire HDD won't mount..freezes when it does mount

I have a Powerbook runnin Panther.

My Maxtor firewire hardrive wont mount. When it finally does it mount, it will freeze up on me.
Any ideas?

How many firewire devices do you have connected at the same time? Do you use a firewire hub? Are both the HD and the PowerBook plugged in?

Have you tried plugging in both the Firewire Drive and your PowerBook into AC power?

thats what im doing right now
both devices are connected to wall power

still freezing

This might be silly but have it plugged in and powered up @ start up. See what that does to you. The run disk utility on it.
Otherwise start from the panther CD with the drive plugged in and run disk utility.
These are just guess's. Things I would try
good luck, been have strange going ons myself. grrrr
