iTunes freezes in the middle of synching to iPod

	When i plug in my iPod (1G) iTunes starts synching as usual but after a few songs it gets stuck on one song and won't go on. Force quitting iTunes won't work, only disconnecting the iPod does anything (BAD, I know). After this I can't shut down my Mac; I'm forced to shut down by holding down the power button. I've tried restoring my iPod, but it doesn't help. It's not always the same song that iTunes stops at either. Could there be something wrong with iTunes? I'll try reinstalling iTunes. I'm currently on Panther. HELP!
