My iPod crashed my computer about 14 times trying to auto-update and then it stopped showing up in the finder and itunes so I called apple and they had me reset it then hold the rewind and fast forward buttons.

great now it works however it still won't auto-update 4500 songs correctly, so Apple tells me to try manually putting a few songs and that maybe it is my computer (dual 867MHz G4).

My computer is fine. Boots faster than ever thanks to panther, plays UT2003 wonderfully, plays music on the hard drive with no problem and file vault is not turned on.

Yet my iPod is getting hot, won't defrag or repair volume structure in Drive 10 (booted to) or DiskWarrior 3 (booted to), takes about 2 hours to transfer 2.39GB of music and yet Apple Support considers the iPod to be functioning properly.

My iPod is a 30GB and is two months old. It hasn't been dropped or shaken and cosmetically is in good shape.

Any thoughts? I think the hard drive is messed up personally.

Return Merchandise Authorization

It basically gives you permission to send the item back and get a new one or a refund.

Yeah, I'd call Apple back and just say it's broken and ask for an RMA. Don't ask them to help you fix it over the phone. Just state that it's busted, and you want to return it for another. Apple is usually very good with this sort of thing. You shouldn't be without your iPod for too long.
