Does anyone think that Apples will ever venture back into the PDA market, ie. ressurect the Newton???
Maybe at this Jan's Macworld??? I'd love to get a mac PDA than anything else since most of them don't seem to sync perfectly with macs. I'm curretnly looking at the new palm lines but don't know if these will be updated soon.

And if they do, I'm sure it'd be like pulling teeth to get it to work properly with anything other than Address Book, iCal and Mail.app. If that were to be the case, count me out.

it may not be pulling teeth because the only way it would work is if it had software. it would either have Mac OS X for PDAs on it or Palm.

even if it was an apple PDA I would not buy it if it ran Palm OS, my T3 works too well and if it ran a special slim version of Mac OS X that would be great run your own mail app or contacts app.

Why buy an Assistant (pda) if the assistant can only assist you in task that your wife does for free (cell phone). It has to have apps or it will die so no go for a new os or the rebirth of Newton.

No, Apple will not produce a PDA, it all ended with the Newton. Let me remind everyone about the story. Steve Jobs threw a Newton against the wall and said, "F#cking scribble pad". Further, in subsequent interveiw Jobs clearly stated he felt it was a niche market and too volitile. Apple has other things to concentrate on without worring about pda's.

That is excellent. If true, what a psycho. I love insane anger, as long as it's not directed at me.

Ditto. Throw on iTunes Lite and Quicktime, and I'm hooked.

Sounds almost like a next-gen iPod with a color screen (larger too, of course) that's touch-sensitive. Hrm.

I too, am too addicted to my T3 to consider any other PDA at this point in time. The T3 is everything I've been wanting in a PDA, I have no complaints.
2.4GHz Macbook. 22" LCD. External 640GB HD. Yum.

jamester and Truepop, can i ask how your battery holds up in the T3? and if you've converted any quicktiime files to it and how they turn out? And if you've added a card in it, how large and if the card is from another company (I've heard that the T3 fries up other cards sometimes)...

I don't know how long my battery lasts, to be honest. I haven't done any testing, and I charge it nightly. (I keep the cradle by my bed. I read when I go to sleep, and then charge the PDA overnight.) Generally, I'll use the PDA to read while I'm at lunch, maybe play some games, etc. I usually have it at full brightness, although it's plenty viewable at half brightness - I just like a well-lit screen.

I have not converted any quicktime files.

That said, I've been using a 256MB Sandisk SD Card (61% full, 163.1MB) constantly since I got it and there have been no issues. Palm does have a patch out for the T3, acknowledging that there have been issues with data loss - but I haven't been one struck by any such issues - it's all good to me.

I too am not sure how long my battery last. I use it almost all day either taking voice memos, organizing my finances with Pocket Quickens or playing games (Sonic, Warefare Inc, and SpyHunter are great) then put it on the cradle to sync and go to bed. Wake up and do it again.

The QT files turn out fine for the compression they undergo. You can purchase the advanced producer that was talking about in another thread and it will give you better quality.

The cards do fry on some units but like jamester said, there is a patch that is 20MB that fixes the problem.
