Hi,
I bought a 160gb ide drive and a ide to firewire enclosure .

Windows doesn't see the true size of the drive and reports it as 130gb (think I need a bios update). So I've formatted the drive as NTFS (Windows).MacosX sees that there is a firewire device connected but doesn't mount any hd.Macos X can read NTFS right ? The reason I chose NTFS is that I need to use the hd on both pc and mac.

Any suggestions regarding formatting so that macos X can mount it ? I'm running panther with no updates so I hope this enclosure doesn't have the oxford chipset that has problems without the latest updates.

update:Just been reading this thread , it appears Panther doesn't like NTFS.IS there a file system that both Windows and Macos X can read ?

Thanks in advance.

Just found out the reason Windows 2000 only sees 130gb is that SP3 needs to be installed to enable 130gb +

Both Windows and Mac can read FAT32. But the issue is that Windows 2000/XP can only format FAT32 partitions up to 32 GB (about) in size, meaning you'd have to break the drive into 5 or 6 partitions.

I had your same dilemma. I formatted the drive as HFS+ and then bought Mac Drive 5 ($50) and ran that on the PC. Worked beautifully.

Thanks. I deleted the fat32 partition and macos X recognised a blank disk.I then partitioned it as hfs+ and it works just fine.
