UpdaTED.. THANK YOU! I got the answer. I am planning to buy ipod but wondering why apple site does not carry the 30G but amazon carries it and the price is same as the 20G in the apple site. Is there a reason for this? Does this mean that the 30G is the older released product. Thank if you can help me about this.

Ok, there are three different iPod generations:

First gen: original 5 gig iPod

mechanical scrool wheel

Second gen: touch pad scrool wheel

sizes: 5 - 10 - 20 gig

Third gen: new enclosure (thinner, all touch backlit buttons, etc.)

original: 10 - 15 - 30 gig

second revision (now): 10 - 20 - 40 gig

So a 30 gig iPod would be the last generation's top model featuring the same enclosure, etc. as the latest revision. Go and get it if you can
I don't suffer from insanity, I enjoy every minute of it.

Do you know the dates when each of those revisions were released by Apple?

Thanks

actually, they only have it LISTED, but you can't buy it. there's no checkbox to add it to your cart.

why doesn't apple just remove the items from the list if you can't buy them? do they just want to remind you that you are getting screwed by getting the newer 20gb?

They had the 30GB refurb and a 20GB 2nd generation actually for sale early this morning (approx 8am EST). I ordered a 30GB as a holiday gift (3-5 business days until shipping w/ free 2-3 day delivery). When I checked back about 3 hours later (11 am EST), they were all gone. I was quite lucky to get my order in!
