Hey.

Does anybody know where I can find instructions on how to take apart a Pro Mouse? Mines gotten pretty grubby, and I'd like to give it a good cleaning.

Thanks.

I took mine apart to fix the USB connector using the instructions on this site. It doesn't come apart too easily, but is definitely doable.

LOL. It' probably be easier to clean it by boiling it...

Thanks.

Dear God that is a ton of work. I'd rather buy a new one then do that!

Yeah, I forgot to mention I wrecked mine in the process and ended up getting a Logitech MX700, so it all worked out in the end. Apple's designs are awesome, but it's tough getting some of their products open due to the design.

Bloody hell, those things were never intended to be pulled apart. I'd be putting up with the dirty mouse. Like some else said you probably could wash it (not boiling water though) if you let it dry for a week or two to ensure every bit of water was out of it. I'm serious, it's common to wash the PCB's out of TV's when they are corroded or dusty in order to work on them. Don't blame me if you wreck your mouse though.

How much gunk is actually inside it?!? It's sealed in so many places, I can't imagine that it's anything but merely gunky on the outside, in which case some 409 will do the trick.

I just cleaned one in order to sell an iMac. I found that even after 2 years of use, all of the gunk was on the outside and could simply be cleaned off EXCEPT underneath the two thumb pads (these are clear on the older models, but are now white, probably due to this very problem). Anyway, I first applied a seriously powerful vacuum cleaner to the very small gaps, which helped a bit, but there was still some gunk in there. I then noticed one of those plastic toothpicks lying on my desk (called "Brushpicks") and it occurred to me that the thin end of it might fit inside the gaps and allow me to pick out the gunk. It took some patience and a bit of force but it worked and the mouse looked as good as new when I shipped it. If you can find a similar tool, give it a shot. I wouldn't want to have to disassemble/reassemble one of these things.
